In the heart of Kazakhstan’s oil-rich territory lies Atyrau, a historic energy hub along the Caspian Sea. Known for its extensive hydrocarbon reserves and industrial expertise, Atyrau is home to one of the most strategically significant refining zones in Central Asia. For Hudson Oil Corporation, this city is not just a point on the map — it’s a cornerstone of our evolving global energy story.
In 2022, Hudson Oil Corporation embarked on a multi-year strategic collaboration with leading Kazakh refining partners based in Atyrau. This initiative was more than a supply agreement; it was a bold move to create a vertically integrated value chain from source to market.
The collaboration focused on:
Refining and processing Kazakhstan-sourced crude into high-quality diesel, jet fuel, and fuel oil
Establishing joint operational protocols for quality control, throughput optimization, and emissions reduction
Enhancing East-West supply corridors, linking Atyrau’s output to European buyers via pipeline, rail, and maritime routes
With a processing capacity of over 5 million tons per annum, the Atyrau partnership quickly became a critical part of Hudson Oil’s global supply infrastructure.
One of the most exciting dimensions of the partnership is our co-investment in modernization and blending innovation. Together with local stakeholders, we introduced modular blending units, which allow us to customize product specifications for various regional markets — from winter-grade diesel for Eastern Europe to low-sulfur marine fuel compliant with IMO 2020 regulations.
Additionally, the refinery adopted Hudson Oil’s proprietary additive packages, improving fuel stability, cold flow properties, and combustion efficiency. These solutions have been instrumental in raising the performance and sustainability standards of Atyrau’s refined products.
This collaboration also aligns with our sustainability mission. In 2024, we began working with the Atyrau refinery to pilot carbon capture and flare gas recovery technologies, reducing CO₂ and methane emissions. The aim is to create a new blueprint for carbon-conscious refining in Central Asia.
Through this partnership, Hudson Oil has ensured stable, on-spec supply to our customers across Europe, particularly in Poland, Germany, the Netherlands, and the Baltics. Our integrated logistics network now leverages:
Rail terminals in Atyrau and Aktau
Cross-border storage partnerships in Poland
Seaborne transit through the Caspian and Black Seas
This seamless network allows us to deliver refined products in bulk, on time, and with full traceability — an edge our clients increasingly demand.
Our collaboration in Atyrau marks the beginning of a broader regional ambition. We are currently in talks to:
Expand refining throughput by 20% by 2026
Launch a green hydrogen pilot project within the refinery complex
Establish training and knowledge exchange programs between engineers in Poland and Kazakhstan
At Hudson Oil Corporation, partnerships like Atyrau aren’t just business — they are the embodiment of our values: performance, reliability, sustainability, and global integration.
